Henrys Lake

It can be said in short---Boat Hatch and Snow Fly Hatch for the early part of the season. Not to mention one son graduating and one getting married the next. Why do people plan things on or near or close to the opening of fishing? :)))

Then I had the opportunity to take the teeny tiny one out on her first fly fishing trip as you can see in the photo. I think I finally have one that might catch the disease :)

You had more boats on Henrys Saturday for the opening than I think you had if you combined the last two years of boats on Henrys. Then you add the thousands of those pesky snow flies and you have problems.

It was a pretty slow opener for most with alot of people leaving the lake unfulfilled. I did my usual blow out the engine junk and did a tour of the lake looking for fish. It was comical at times and left me chuckling and smiling through most of the tour with all the boats. We even heard one guy calling another a horses something or other.

As we have moved into June it's been spotty. Some are doing well at times and others are not. The folks trolling have been doing the best so far but are catching the little 2 year old fish. Some of the bait fishermen have done well too. The fly fishermen are having some success but nothing to shout about yet with some exceptions like John Schultz. He hooked into an awesome fish and should shout a little about that one. He was kind enough to let me share it with all of you.

Just in the last few days we have seen an increase in catch rates for the fly fishermen. We have had some decent days out on the water. Look for it to get better and better. The fish are pretty scattered so the fish are being picked up in many places around the lake. I really haven't heard of any place on the lake that people have not caught fish.

We have had some success with the early season black and brown colored flies. We have had as of late some success with some scud and damsel patterns. There isn't one hot bug at this point in time.

Sheridan Lake

Sheridan has fished well the last few weeks. It started off slow but it's been hot as a firecracker lately. We have found the larger fish are starting to show themselves again. Towards the end of last year they went into hiding. Some of the fish last week and this week have been in the 6lb class. Most would be found in the 2lb class with some in the 3lb class. They fight hard and unbelievable strong and provide some great aerial action. It's been a place where guys have left pretty darn happy for having been on the lake. Hopefully we can get some to write in and give us a short story on their trip on the lake the last few days.

Leech, Chrionomids and mayfly nymph patterns have been the most effective so far. This week it seems like most anything worked to some degree. Presentation and getting in front of the fish always plays a key role too.
