Can it get any hotter. I'm not sure which is worse the hot hot sun or the snow? I'm leaning on the hot side as long as it doesn't get any hotter.
Hope everyone is having a fun filled fishing summer!
Well enough said. The good news is it will get better. Okay, okay there is more to the story. Henry's has turned off and is slowwwwwwww fishing. Some folks are catching fish but for most the catching is non-existent. Bill has found a few fish early in the morning but by 8am it's done for the most part. I had one trip during the start of this down cycle and was it ever brutal.
The fish that are being caught are really stressed so handle the fish wisely. Bring them in quick and turn them loose quick. What we need now is some coooool rain and temps. Prior too this down turn we experienced some awesome days at Targhee Creek and Duck. When it cools the fish will get back on the feed wagon.
Flies have remained consistent for what fish are being caught. Brown CB, BH Electric Black, Mity Mouse and the California is starting to show its stuff.
Stay tuned
There is a bright spot to the fishing right now and that's Sheridan Lake . Those that had a chance to fish last week did very well. We have had a great Damsel Hatch unlike Henry's sputtering hatch. The fish have been going nuts on Damsel patterns. We have had only one bad day of it this last 10 days. I know as it was one of my trips this Monday. It was brutal to say the least. I knew it was going to be bad with all the bad conditions. One, 150 Pelicans in where the damsel activity is taking affect, glassy water and the hot hot bright bright sun. What does that spell----disaster! Later this same day during the early evening hours it heated up tremendously. The Pelican's were gone, a good chop on the water and what does that spell---an awesome evening. The later trip boated over 40 fish. This being very similar to the days that we had the previous week. Right now it's the hot place to fish---if the conditions are favorable which most of the time they have been.
The big fish have started to surface as Brent can verify on Friday morning. The big piggy hit, cleared some major air and in 1.2 secs he was out of there along with the fly. Ohhhh but what a moment and one that Brent won't forget too soon!
The hot flies have been any damsel pattern you want to throw at them. They are aggressive and really hammer the flies.
