Fly Fishing Newsletter
7-08-2005
I have to apologize to everyone. The newsletters have not come out nearly as often as I would have liked. With the fishing season being so fast and furious I have not been able to work at the computer as often. Now given the choice of being on the lakes fishing or on the computer which would you choose? Nevertheless I do apologize for the newsletters not getting out there.
Having said all that-the fishing has been awesome. We have had such a great time with the folks who have fished with us so far this year. Everyone has caught fish and had a great time on the water. Some of caught more than others but everyone has had fun.
We did have one week that a cold front came in and slowed the fishing down. As it warmed back up and the weather stabilized the fishing numbers increased on both lakes.
Henry's Lake
Henrys Lake has been fickle at times. Most people that are coming up are catching fish. Some days the numbers are there and some days the numbers are not. The average seems to be 5 to 12 fish caught. The large fish are still being caught in good numbers. Bill landed another huge fish measuring 29 inches. Gary Grigg from Florida caught a 6 pound male brookie July 6 th . That's a pretty big male brookie. We will have some more pictures including these on our website soon.
Most of the fish being caught are out in the middle of the lake via trolling. Those that are fly fishing are catching most of their around 11 foot of water in the usual places such as Duck Creek, Stayley Springs, County Boat Dock. With the Damsel Hatch in full swing look for fish to be in 11 feet to 4 feet of water. Look for Targhee Creek to start producing fish as the weather keeps things warmed up. The best flies are the Mity mouse, Lt. Olive Crystal, Brown Crystal, Henry's Lake Renegade , Cheater Damsel, Flash Olive Damsel along with a few others.
Sheridan Lake
Sheridan Lake with the cold front that came in shut it down for a few days like Henry's. It's back to being hot and including the weather. The fish have moved a little since the last newsletter. Most of the fish being caught is off the boat dock area in 12 to 14 foot of water. They are in a little deeper water. However, if you search for feeding fish you will also find fish in those ugly week pockets. They are usually bigger fish and landing them can be tricky with all those weeds. It can be very rewarding however if you like fewer numbers and bigger fish. This last week the fishing has been awesome.
We have seen good Callibaetis hatch, Caddis hatches in the evening and we are in full swing of the damsel hatch. All of our Henry lake patterns will work on this fishery along with some patterns for the Callibaetis and Caddis hatches.
Patterns the last couple of weeks have been Leech patterns with the main colors being black and purple. Other flies working well are the Cheater Damsel and Flash Olive damsel patterns. We have been using some Pheasant Tail, Prince Nymphs and Bird Nest flies with some success as well the usual Callibaetis and Caddis Patterns.
Any questions about fishing the area or trips just give us a call at 208-390-2177. You can always check out our web site at www.bsflies.com . There are new things being added weekly. As always it's a work in progress and a journey.
