Henry's Lake

This week's fishing report for June 14, 2005 is a good one. It's been a great week on both Henry's Lake and Sheridan Lake . We have had a great time on both lakes with great people. We had several guide trips that went very well both in catching fish and having fun. One family came up from Utah and was able to take several of them out on Henry's Lake . The highlights on this trip were many. One highlight was watching boys catching their fish after several nights of anticipation and seeing their excitement. Dave Bair who headed the group had a special treat happen to him. He was able to catch and land this nice fish early Friday morning. Everyone caught fish this day and had a great time. Another fish caught by Soup Jessop is also included in the pictures.

Henry's this last week had some great days and some not so great days. On the warmer days the bugs have been active and so have the fish. We then got a cold spell that came in and slowed everything down again. I think early on when things were heating up everyone had a chance to catch some decent fish between 8 and 12 pounds. People also found some numbers as well with a lot of fish being caught in the 15 to 17 inch range. Bill had one of his best days in a long time catching 36 fish with several 26 inch hybrids. When the fishing was really hot the fish were found in the 11 to 13 feet of water. The BH Electric black, Mity Mouse, California Leech were the hot flies. Some fish were caught on the purple showgirl and the light olive crystal. Some of the fish being caught were caught on a new fly called the Kolob. The fly was developed by Mike Smith. He is a great friend and a great innovator of flies. He isn't too bad at catching fish either. It's a fly that is coming on strong and making a dent in the fishing at Henry's. There are some opportunities for those trolling flies to still pick up fish in the middle. The purple show girl is the hottest fly when doing this.

When the weather cooled the fish headed for a little warmer water and were the bugs were active. Monday and Tuesday were tough days on the lake with cooler temperatures and lots of wind. On Tuesday we were able to boat a large hybrid of 8 and ½ pounds. The rest of the fish caught were 2 and 3 year old fish. Overall the lake is fishing really well. Look for warmer days to really get the fish active and on the feed. Here is a picture of the big fish we landed on Tuesday.

Sheridan Lake

Sheridan Lake has still fished exceptionally well. Those that have fished the lake this week have found success. The numbers and size will put a smile on anyone's face. Those we have guided have simple loved the lake, the fish and the experience. The fish attack the fly and are not at all shy. It's simple a great place to take a day and fish. It's a lake that will spoil you.

The flies that have worked the best on the lake are the Purple Show Girl, Kolob, BH Electric Black and the Mity mouse. The West end of the lake has been fishing the best. Most of the fish being caught are between 2 and 4 pounds with a good number in the 4 to 6 pound range. A few of the fish that are being caught are in the 6 to 8 range. Some of the bigger fish have eluded folks for the last few weeks.

We had a great opportunity of having Doug Miller KUTV Outdoor sports news personality come and fish the lake with us this last week. Having watched him as a young man in those years I lived in Utah was a treat for me and my partner who also fished with us. He was extremely pleased with the lake. We were able to get him and Jason his camera man into the action. They both were able to get into a lot of nice fish. Doug commented several times how hard the fish hit the fly. Here is Doug with one of his fish.

Overall, the fishing has been very good so far on Henry's. We are very pleased with the numbers of fish being caught and very pleased at the big fish being caught. This is the first year that I know of that so many big fish have been caught this early. Look for the lake to really catch fire as the water warms and the fish become more active. Sheridan has been a steady producer. Both lakes will go through some change as the water warms and the weeds begin their growth. Please feel free to give us a call. We will gladly put together a guided or self guided trip together for you. We will answer all your questions and give you the best opportunity to get into some fish on either lake.
